Views of anaesthesia technicians in Turkiye on paediatric anaesthesia: a survey study
Aims: The aim of this study is to evaluate the opinions of anesthesia technicians about pediatric anesthesia.
Methods: Our study is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The universe of our research is made up of people who graduated as Anesthesia Technicians in Turkiye. There are a total of 29 questions in the online questionnaire, 8 of which are sociodemographic. The data were collected between 15.10.2024-01.11.2024 via social media platforms. The collected data were analyzed with IBM SPSS version 20.0 program.
Results: The average age of the participants was 29.36±7.44, 74% were women, 53% were single, 72% did not have children and 72% Decently worked between 1 and 10 years. 61% of the participants reported that they did not receive training about pediatric age group patients, only 51.9% considered themselves adequate about the drug doses used in pediatric patient anesthesia, 67.3% did not feel safe when giving anesthesia in non-operating room anesthesia environments, 69.6% experienced stress in pediatric patient anesthesia, 48.8% did not want to work in the pediatric operating room.
Conclusion: As a result of our study, it was determined that anesthesia technicians did not receive training such as NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), CHILYAD (Advanced Life Support Training for Children), EPALS (European Pediatric Advanced Life Support), in-service, and about half of them did not consider themselves adequate about pediatric anesthesia. It has been determined that pediatric patients experience stress and increased anxiety during anesthesia, do not want to work in the pediatric operating room, and do not feel safe in non-operating room anesthesia environments. It is thought that providing training to anesthesia technicians to increase their knowledge about pediatric anesthesia may be beneficial, and stress and increased anxiety levels may be reduced.
